Prof. Murat Songu, MD

He won the “Politzer Society Special Award” in 2008 for his works that he started at the French Georges Portmann Institute. Since he is the second citizen of the Republic of Turkey to win this award, he received a Commendation from the Presidency of the Turkish Republic in 2009.

In the year 2009, as a result of a nationwide evaluation study conducted by the “Turkish State Hospitals and Patient Assistance Foundation”, he was granted the “Health Contributors Award”.

In 2009 he was named “Doctor of the Year” by the TR Ministry of Health and in the same year, he was awarded with a Commendation by the TR Ministry of Health.

As the specialist physician who published the highest number of internationally accredited scientific publications in Turkey in 2010, he was deemed worthy of the “Scientific Contribution Incentive Award” bestowed by the TR Ministry of Health.

In the year 2010, he was nominated for the “Turkish Grand National Assembly Distinguished Service Award” by emphasizing his contributions to “increasing the international scientific reputation of the institutions he works for and our country”.

In the year 2010, he won the Third Place in Turkey (88 points) in the Ministry of Health Chief, Assistant Chief, and Chief Assistant Written Examination, and the First Place in Turkey (100 points) in the Ministry of Health Chief Assistant Oral Exam. He was appointed to the teaching staff of ENT Clinic of İzmir Atatürk Training and Research Hospital

He won the “Most Productive ENT Specialist” 2nd prize in 2010 and the “Most Productive ENT Specialist” 1st prize in 2011 by the Canal-ENT (Otorhinolaryngology Specialists Information Sharing Platform).

In the year 2009, he received the “Educational Video Award” at the 7th Academy Meeting, the 1st prize of the “TRENT Academy Rhinocamp Scientific Research Competition” in the 8th Rhino Camp Meeting in 2012, and the “Best Research” 3rd prize at the 35th Turkish National Ear Nose Throat Head and Neck Surgery Congress in 2013.

He earned the right to become an ” Associate Professor in Ear Nose and Throat Diseases ” passing the oral exam held at Ankara Dışkapı Yıldırım Beyazıt Hospital on September 5, 2014.

He won the Turkish Otorhinolaryngology and Head and Neck Surgery Fellowship and worked at the Robotic Surgery Unit at UPMC (University of Pittsburgh Medical Center) in Pittsburgh, USA, between February 2016 and May 2016.

On April 2, 2021, he was awarded the “Professor of Ear Nose and Throat Diseases”.

With more than 100 scientific studies published in international and national journals, numerous reports submitted at international and national congresses, authors of 8 chapters in national, and 9 chapters in internationally reknown books of medicine, and as an invited speaker at nearly 100 scientific events Dr. Murat Songu, contributed to national and international medical literature almost every day He is one of the physicians with the highest H-index and i10-index values ​​among Turkish scientists with a total of around 1700 international citations. As a result of these scientific studies, he has also assumed various international publishing responsibilities. He simultaneously continues his duties as an assistant editor, section editor, member of the editorial board and referee in many journals.

Dr. Murat Songu has continued to work with devotion and diligence every day for more than 10 years in one of the hospitals with the heaviest workload in Turkey, and contributed to nearly 100 ENT residents to become ENT specialists.

Dr Murat Songu is married and father of two children (Ayşe Songu and Selim Songu),. Prof.Dr. Murat Songu currently works at Medicana International Izmir Hospital.
